The Last of Us review: Episode 2

*There are major spoilers of episode 2 ahead. Please read with caution*

Episode 2 of The Last of Us premiered last night on HBO Max. This show is gaining traction after having the largest episode growth in HBO history, and that should come to no surprise.

This episode once again had a great opening scene to give more background of this disease. At the same time, it brought more fear to how dangerous the outbreak will become. I mean, the characters are considering mass destruction of urban areas as the only solution. Once again, this adds to the value of the story from the game, and I think this has been one of the best parts of the show so far.

Another major part of this episode that had game-lovers excited was seeing the Clickers for the first time. They appear exactly how they were in the game and are still just as terrifying.

The museum scene was masterful. All three of them having to stay quiet. Ellie and Joel hiding behind shelves. Joel and Tess having to fight the Clickers. It was done beautifully and had me on the edge of my seat. What more could you ask for?

Lastly, the final scene where Joel and Ellie learned that Tess was infected was somehow sadder and more intense than it was in the game. But, the bigger thing that came out of it was the switch from spores to tethers. I feel like people who played the game are upset, but I think it adds way more value to this story. It’s a unique method of spreading original to the show, and it emphasizes why you should stay as far away from the infected as humanly possible.

All in all, this episode was well done, and this is becoming one of my favorite shows ever. I cannot wait to tune in next Sunday. If you haven’t seen this show yet, stop what you’re doing and watch it now. Like just go do it.
